Puzzle Piece Cake

I recently shared this Puzzle Piece Cake tutorial at 30 Days
for Autism Awareness Month.

Puzzle pieces are often used as the symbol for Autism Awareness.
So, I decorated this cake with edible puzzle pieces in primary colors.

Let me show you how easy it was to make!
Start with a silicone mold like this one.

Melt some vanilla candy coating or candy melts,
and add food coloring.

Put your candy coating in a decorating bag and snip off the tip.
Squeeze the chocolate into the mold, just covering the bottom of each cavity.

Let them set up, then gently push on the back of the mold to pop the puzzle pieces out.

Arrange them around the sides of your cake, and put a few on the top.
You could also color your cake layers to match the puzzle pieces. :0)

"Motherhood is about raising and celebrating the child you have, not the child you thought you would have. It's about understanding that he is exactly the person he is supposed to be. And that, if you're lucky, he just might be the teacher who turns you into the person you are supposed to be."
- Joan Ryan

If you would like to learn a little about our autism story,
you can read about it here and here.

  9. Beautiful cake! I love how bright and vibrant the colors are! Thanks for sharing your story as well. :) I have a 20 year old son with severe autism. I'm so very proud of him and all he has accomplished over the years (very much against the odds)! I also have a brother with Apergers who is a high level computer programmer for a major company...it just shows that we should never limit or make assumptions about the things our children will be able to accomplish based on the word of a professional or anyone else. God bless you and your family! :)

  11. Absolutely adorable cake! The colors are so vivid and such a tribute to those with autism. I think Drs make diagnoses and comments without really thinking what is "possible". They go by statistics...and not the right ones, IMHO. There are incredibly talented and remarkable individuals with autism ~ and I would love for all the Drs to see what they accomplish.

  17. yes..both are neutral enough to match! And for the nay sayers:.
brown and black go together, usually did and always will (study color coordination if you don't believe me personally!!!).. to tuck in the jeans, leave them lengthy then fold them around your ankle (just such as you are making tapered pants) on the inside the leg, to wear them with skinny jeans is and so a great deal easier.
