I had a lot of fun making this cake,
because it is for a very special occasion...
a Virtual Baby Shower for the fabulous Meaghan
from The Decorated Cookie & Edible Crafts!
Meaghan just welcomed her darling baby girl, Violet, into the family.
Meaghan just welcomed her darling baby girl, Violet, into the family.
I'm excited to be included in a group of creative bloggers that are celebrating
with lots of RAINBOW treats!
with lots of RAINBOW treats!
Meaghan is seriously awesome!
First of all, she is amazingly creative.
She's all famous and stuff (have you seen her cookbook, Sugarlicious?)
and she has been so encouraging and sweet to me!
She was one of the first bloggers to feature one of my cakes,
and I was so thrilled that she liked something I made! Little old ME!
To create this Rainbow Petal Cake for Meaghan
I combined one of my favorite decorating techniques with pastel rainbow colors.
I could just stare at these pretty colors all day.
Here is my palette of buttercream frosting.
I filled plastic decorating bags, then snipped off the ends.
To learn how to make this petal design (it's easier than it looks!),
go check out my tutorial here!I wanted to make the inside of the cake a girly pink,
so I whipped up my favorite Strawberry Cake recipe.
Congratulations, Meaghan!
Here are all the awesome bloggers participating in the virtual baby shower...

ReplyDeleteCompletely amazing........I just stared at this for a few minutes with my jaw on the floor. Glad to contribute to this awesome collection with you!
ReplyDeleteSo completely gorgeous!! WOW!
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIn your tutorial you do one row then make your petals, add another row & so on...on this did you do one row on a diagonal or did you make one vertical row using all the different colors? It looks like you should be able to use one color to make the row on the diagonal to make it go a little faster?
So so pretty.
Thanks, Jenny! I did this cake in vertical rows as well, which took a while with all the colors. Your idea of doing diagonal lines is great...it probably would have saved me some time! :)
DeleteYour cake is absolutely PERFECT and beautiful! I love the vivid rainbow colors! I wish this wasn't a virtual shower so that I could have a slice:)

ReplyDeleteHow did you get such gorgeous vivid colours in your buttercream? What did you use? This is just a stunning stunning cake.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! How on earth did you get the neat flat dot in the centre of the top rows?
ReplyDeleteI luv this cake and making it tomorrow for my son's 16th birthday. Just wanted to confirmed that I do not need to use the round no 12 nozzle and can just snip off the tip of the piping bag? Thanks
ReplyDeleteSo, I am excited to attempt this tonight for my little girl's 4th birthday tomorrow, but I have never made a layer cake before. Did one recipe of cake make all of those layers, or did you double it? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI loved this cake when I first saw it in December .. finally remembered to pin it!
ReplyDeleteWoooooow! This is such a great idea! Will try to make one like this for my daughter's birthday on Saturday.

ReplyDeleteHi, I was just wanting to know if you have the recipe you used for the buttercream on the rainbow petal cake?

Love your cakes. I made the hummingbird cake but was not able to get the petals to stay on the sides so I just did the top. Do you have a recipe for the icing you used here?
