About Me

Welcome! I'm Robin, and this is my little family.

I'm a cake lover and baking & cake decorating are my creative outlets! It all started with making fun cakes for my kids' birthdays. I made whatever cake they requested... panda, elephant, frog, snake, fish and more. Then, I finally decided to take a Wilton cake decorating class and expand my horizons. I discovered a lot of basic decorating techniques that I didn't know I didn't know!

I also love experimenting with cake recipes and putting my own spin on old favorites. For me, the way a cake tastes is just as important as the way it looks! But I sure do love pretty cakes. :0)

Here is some random stuff about me:
  • I am a native and current resident of Florida, but also spent a total of 6 years living in Utah.
  • I have been married to my hubby for 20 years. For our first date, he took me cave exploring through knee deep water!
  • My two youngest children are autistic. I blog about life at our house here.
  • I am a music addict. The only time I don't have music playing is when I am sleeping.
  • I have always loved to read. My favorites are mysteries and anything that takes place in the British Isles.
  • I have lots of allergies, and sneeze every single day of my life.
  • I once worked as a dance club DJ on country night (and I don't like country music).
  • I was a missionary for 18 months in Wales and England.
  • I majored in Pre-Veterinary science, then Biology...but ended up being a Computer Network Administrator.
  • My hair was naturally straight for the first 27 years of my life. During my first pregnancy, my hair started growing out curly. It has gotten progressively curlier with each pregnancy, and I now have very frizzy curly hair.
  • I hate the taste of fondant and I don't like working with it. Buttercream frosting, candy melts and ganache are my cake decorating weapons of choice!
  • I started running for the first time in 2010, and ran a 5K. I actually love running! I am hoping it balances out my love for cake. :0)

I would love to hear from you!

  15. Hi Robin, What a beautiful site you have, the cakes look amazing. My sisters birthday is today, she is an amazing baker also. I decided to make her your orange creamsicle cupcakes, they look so yummy. Both my sister and I are avid cooks and bakers, we have quite a collection of cookbooks between us. I will let her know about your site so she can add it to her on line collection, as I did. Thank you for sharing your gift. Odie Coyote from upstate New York.

I have ever growing respect for you as a confectionery genius & mom. My eyes will ever be grazing your pages for new wisdom & your name always in my prayers!

Wishing you good health, great happiness & heaven's blessings

  18. Hi Robin,
Love your blog and your passion for cakes...which I too, have the same passion. I live in England now, but originally from California. I found your Bird on a Cake site from spotting it on Pinterest. Someone had pinned your Red Velvet Bundt Cake with cream cheese frosting...sounds so fantastic. My question is where has all this talk of Red Velvet Cake come from? I left the US in 1996 and there was no Red Velvet Cakes yet. Now, they are everywhere and yours looks the best so far! I love Bundt Cake anyway, so this is even more interesting to me. Can you explain what all the excitement about Red Velvet Cake is? What does it taste like?
    Many thanks, Mike in England

  19. I found your blog through Pinterest, and absolutely love it! I too love making a pretty, yet delicious cake, and hate fondant, so it's nice to have a place where all the wonderful, beautiful ideas I see will be fondant free!
And I rather love running too. Gotta find something to balance that love of baking! :)

  21. I really enjoyed getting to know you better today. What an exciting first date. Your husband must have a great sense of adventure, especially since you've done missions. My husband and I met at YWAM and love travelling around working in missions too. I think it'd be fun if my hair turned curly from pregnancy. Doesn't every straight-haired girl want to go curly sometimes? Have a great week!

  23. Wow, you are truly fascinating!!! I have curly hair, but by the time I had my third, the curls starting drooping! Your cakes are amazing, you are very talented. You found the perfect outlet! I love the names of your kids and I love the picture of your family! That is one of the best first dates I've ever heard!

  24. Robin! This was so fun to read!! We have even more in common than I realized. I think it's funny that you DJ'd on country night but don't like country music (me too!). You know I loove your cakes. I took Wilton classes through Michaels when I was pregnant with my first (so that was 13 yrs ago- wow!!). My cakes look nothing like yours. Dang. Thanks for taking the time to link up on 30days often. I've loved getting to know you more! xo

OH one more thing. Have you heard of this organization? They need bakers all through the US so I thought I would share. I am making my first cake for them later this month and am so excited!

  30. Just found that we share one thing, from your random facts list :) I also loose weight when I am pregnant, and both times I went into the delivery room, weighing the same or less then before I got pregnant :)
I loved the fact about your hair, that is so strangely cute!)))

  31. Robin, I too lost weight when I was pregnant with my second daughter, but my first one I gained 20 pounds. I chalked the weight loss up to having hydrocephalus after she was born. I guess there are more women that lose weight while pregnant also.

  32. I made your peanut butter cup and chocolate cake. It was a big hit! I added a teaspoon of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate. It tasted great but wasn't as pretty as yours.
